Red corundum and green zoisite crystals are present in the colorful metamorphic rock known as ruby zoisite. Hornblende is also frequently found there. Ruby zoisite is a somewhat uncommon gemstone. Most of them are from northern Tanzania. The term anyolite, which derives from the Maasai word "anyoli," which means "green," is also occasionally used. As a sign of pride that valuable ruby can be found on their territory, the Maasai choose to refer to it as "ruby" in zoisite.

The garnet group species pyrope, which ranges in color from rose-pink to red, is known by the varietal name rhodolite. The term comes from the Greek word "rhodon," which means "rose-like," as do other pink mineral kinds (e.g. rhodochrosite, rhodonite). Rhodolite is utilized as a gemstone because of its color and the fact that garnet from this location typically lacks inclusions.
